Read to your child everyday

Reading a favourite book to your child not only helps you to bond with them, but also gives your child a sense of intimacy and wellbeing. This feeling of intimacy helps your child feel close to you and the attention they get encourages positive growth and development. It is important to prepare your child to succeed as a reader by reading aloud to them. So be consistent, patient and watch the magic unfold as you:

  • Help your child develop vocabulary, listening and speaking skills
  • Enjoy reading different types of books: picture books, information books, nursery rhymes, poetry
  • Encourage your child to talk about the pictures and stories as you read together; and
  • Visit our school library for many reading resources.

Build your child’s interest in Literacy and Numeracy:

  • Make a game of looking for letters and numbers on signposts and in books
  • Provide scissors, a broom, and playdough to strengthen fine motor skills
  • Provide opportunities for your child to draw with pencils, crayons and felt pens
  • Help your child print his or her first name, if they are interested, by for example writing with sticks in the dust, or with chalk on the pavers at home (and have fun playing with water and cleaning up afterwards 🙂
  • Make new discoveries by exploring together in a playful way

Young children need practice and patient encouragement in their learning. Working together and having fun is just as important as completing tasks. Every child will be welcomed into the classroom as a unique individual with his or her own strengths. We look forward to learning together with you and your child. At Netzah International School, great learning starts here!
